Dear friends, dear members and dear watchers :iconpurpleheartplz:

now the second journal of the series will be seen. And the first thing I want to mention is that there is a wonderful contest organized by four groups and three are
our affiliates :iconinfrared-club: and :iconwhoneedscolour: and :icontrees-with-character:

Magic Tree Contest So feel invited to join this great competition :-)

In this journal the main focus will be our folder called non-real by colors. The main focus of this folder is color and the artists who work and express themselves with colors. So you find here beside the photographers, the traditional artists and the digital artists. We will give you a more detailed idea what could be meant with non-real by colors by showing different pictures from non-real, and, additionally, with a special collection from the Infrared-Club (Extra-Visible Imaging) reflecting also the theme non-real by colors.

Now, please enjoy the colorful world of non-real :-)

Colors could be shown in the picture or not:

Colour and Infrared Photography

Infrared photography has its part to play in coloured images. We cannot see infrared light directly, but we can imagine it having a dark to light component, just as in visible light. When it comes to colours, however, our brains and minds have no conception of colours other than those seen in the visible spectrum. This has led some photographers to say that the only “true” infrared photographs must be “black and white” (BW), that is tonal monochrome images with no colour at all. Here are a couple of examples, one from the portfolio of richardldixon  and one from DimensionSeven .

Compared to the other examples of B/W images shown in this journal, infrared photographs show blue skies to be “black”, and foliage – grass and leaves – to be “white”. - quite different to our visible B/W images. This is a characteristic of infrared photography that can add a surreal or non-real character to the image.

Nevertheless, most infrared work you come across does have colour, sometimes called “false” colour. The reason colour appears is that the red, green, and blue sensors in the camera react to different degrees with infrared light: the red sensors are the most sensitive, then blue, then green. A typical infrared photograph, as shot, would have a red or magenta hue as in this shot from my portfolio. To get rid of this colour cast we alter the white balance.

Depending on how the white balance is changed, so a range of colour effects emerges. Here are some examples:

Mike Schwarz often develops his work into pale yellows and greens :thumb331962540:

Helios-Spada, in similar vein, likes to use saturated colour, blue and red White Ivy by helios-spada :thumb303663185:

rdevill makes use of the old style infrared film with its deep reds and pinks Martian trees by ivettordog

Finally, we do not always use just the infrared component of light, but we can record both visible and infrared at the same time. A master of such work is Dewanggapramata who uses a camera that records light from the yellow/orange region of the visible and through the infrared. :: Divine :: by dewanggapratama

The last example, from Leucareth, shows a complete full spectrum work - all the visible plus the infrared and we have a full colour image, but not as we would see it with visible alone.

We hope you enjoy our idea of collaboration and we wish you a wonderful time
